Look and Be Radiant

Parent Orientation August 23, 2024

You are commended by God for choosing to raise your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.  Thank you for your obeying God’s command.  God always honors those who honor Him.

At the board meeting in June, the Lord gave us a word of encouragement, not to lose heart as this would be a rebuilding year.  In the past we have seen God do big and little things, provide for us in remarkable ways, and encourage us with special times where we knew “that was God.”  So we do not doubt He will accomplish this word of promise?  As you may know, the Holy of Holies was lined with Cedar wood, therefore, our name suggests that God is in this place and He is accomplishing His purpose.

Our theme, “Look and be radiant,” comes from Isaiah 60:1-5.  God awakens us to arise and shine in the midst of darkness, declaring that His light and glory will be seen on us.  During the shaking that is already happening and still coming, we are not going to merely survive the onslaught of trouble.  Rather, as we look to Him, He will let us be a glorious light that draws people to Him.  Since God desires godly offspring, we believe that His purpose this year is to build a solid foundation which is unshakeable in the hearts of our students.  He will have young people who know the Lord and will not cave in to the wind and tsunami waves of the world.

Naturally there is resistance in the world.  Whenever you obey Him or seek to do something for Him, there is always a cost.  As Psalm 34 states, many are the tribulations of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.  Jesus said it this way, “In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”  You may have already had to endure the “little foxes” that tried to destroy your commitment to have your children in Christian education.  However, obeying is always blessed.

Finally, whenever God gives a word, He reveals His heart and what He desires to do, but He waits for us to agree with Him.  He wants to partner with us.  In the world the concept is “if you want it done right, do it yourself.”  However, Jesus’ way is the exact opposite.  If Jesus wants to save the world, He entrusts the message to men and gives them His Spirit to accomplish it.  Therefore, since God has chosen your children to "look and be radiant" in His light and glory, it requires all of us to agree in faith and prayer that His purpose will be accomplished this year.  Yes, we agree, those who know the Lord and live by the authority of God's Word will "look to Him and be radiant."

You are an eternal being!

You will live forever, not in this age, but in the age to come. However, many people focus solely on their achievements and acquisitions in this lifetime, neglecting preparation for judgment and the future age. Jesus' resurrection demonstrates His dominion over all powers, as Ephesians 1:20 affirms, "not only in this age but in the age to come."

In Luke 16, Jesus tells the parable of the unjust steward who manipulates debts to secure his future. Rather than condemn his deceit, Jesus highlights the steward's foresight in planning ahead. He advises, "Make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails, they may receive you into eternal dwellings."

Everything we possess belongs to the Master, and we all fall short in various ways. The crucial question is: How are we using what we have to secure entry into our eternal home? Have we embraced Jesus' sacrifice for our sins? Have we surrendered to Him as Lord of our lives? Just as a landlord owns the property, if He is our "lord" we choose to let Jesus "own" us and as his disciples, we strive to please and emulate Him in all we do. What we sow on earth will surely store up treasure in heaven and in the next age.

"Many people assume that everyone goes to a better place when they die. While Jesus died for the sins of all humanity, He also explained the nature of His kingdom in the Beatitudes and instructed the crowds in Matthew 7, to "Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter through it. But narrow is the gate and difficult is the way that leads to life, and there are few who find it." Going to  heaven is not automatic, it requires a yielding to the way Jesus has provided.

In summary, created in the image of God, we all will live forever, but not in the same place.  In spite of all Jesus has done, many will follow the path that leads to destruction.  It is not those who say "Lord, Lord" but those who do the will of the Father who enter into the kingdom of Heaven.  While there is time, be like the unjust steward, and make your provision for the future age.  Surrender to Jesus.

I want you to be in heaven with me.

Just as Paul tells the Israelites in Romans 9, I want you to be in heaven with me.  Everything else in this life is trivial compared to this absolute, final outcome.  “Location, location, location” is an old adage concerning real estate. That principle is even more crucial for our eternal existence.  Clearly, nothing in this life matters more than the question, "Where will you spend eternity?"

Beyond our finite mind and understanding, we will live forever.  God created each of us as an eternal being.  Just as described in Genesis, these fleshly bodies have received the breath of God and become living souls that will live forever.  Yes, our physical bodies will fall to the earth and die, but our inner man, the real person we are, has an eternal existence.

Unfortunately, even though everyone knows that our years on the earth are limited and will end in death, many people allow themselves to be so distracted with wealth, comfort and convenience, that they fail to consider and prepare for the eternity that lies ahead.  Nothing could be more foolish.  Vanity of vanity, says the preacher in Ecclesiastes, all is vanity.  He is so right.

At one point a man asked Jesus to intervene so his brother would share the inheritance. (Luke 12:13)   Jesus answered that one’s life does not consist in the abundance of what he possesses, and then Jesus follows with the parable of the rich man building more barns and neglecting his soul.  Jesus calls him a fool who is rich in earthly goods and not rich toward God.  A wise man builds his house upon the rock.  The rock is Jesus Christ and what is revealed in His Word how to be right with God and be saved for a life of joy with Him forever.

None of us even comes close to deserving to be right with God forever, which is, of course, the reason God sent His Son to pay what we really deserved so we could have His life and right relationship with the Father.  The question isn't why would God send people to hell, the question is why would anyone reject the perfect love of God who died for our sins so we could live in joy forever.

Therefore, above anything else you think or do, make sure that you have accepted that Jesus Christ has paid the price for you and that because of such great love, you willingly submit to Him as the Lord, or master of your life.  Read this truth in Romans 10:8-10.  It really is as simple as believing that Jesus rose from the dead (meaning every one of your sins are paid for) and being willing to declare with your lips that Jesus is Lord of your life.  Jesus stated in Matthew 10:32 that He would confess each one before the Father who has been unashamed to confess Him (Jesus) before men.

Lay down every other excuse or persuasion of human thinking, and come as little child trusting Jesus to forgive you and make you completely new.  He is faithful and promises you will be with Him (and me) in heaven forever.
